Avets are well built machines! I have two of them working on my third. I have a 7000i Abu Garcia and it spanks Reds.

I have never used a tica, but i own a few abu (6500,5500), avet(mxl mc) and daiwa (saltist 20 & 40, and sealine x 30sha) reels. Out of those I prefer the daiwas over the others for fishing the beach with a hdx. The avet is a fine reel and holds up really well on the beach and has plenty of power, but i cant get the same distances out of it like the daiwa's. For the money i like the saltist 20. Its a great reel for the hdx, plenty of power and distance.
The drinking will continue til the fishing improves

Re: tica reel, Abu, or Avet reels
I have 2 Avet SX MC (Magnetic Cast control) left-hand retrieve reels. The main reason I bought them was because of the left-hand retrieve and the Magnetic Cast control. I use them with my LDX and really like them. You always have some magnetic cast control. You can't completely disable it. Great when casting into a stiff wind. Distance definitely suffers when there is no wind or wind at your back. Luckily, I almost always have to cast into the wind.
